COMPLETE THE ANALOGY

1.Largest planet :Jupiter,smallest planet: Mercury

2.Mars:Red planet, Earth :Blue planet

3. Hottest planet: Venus, coldest planet: Neptune

4.Earth : one moon, Neptune: 14 moons

5.Earth :inner planet, Uranus:outer planet

ANSWER THE FOLLOWING QUESTIONS IN ONE SENTENCE.

1. Why does the Sun look bigger than all the other stars in the sky?

The Sun is the closest star to the Earth. That is why it looks bigger than all the other stars in the sky.

2. Name the planets of the solar system in the order of their increasing distance from the Sun.

The eight planets of the solar system are Mercury, Venus,Earth, Mars,Jupiter,Saturn Uranus and Neptune.

3. Why are the outer planets also called as gas gaints?

The outer planets are made of gases and are  much bigger in size than the inner planets.Hence they are called gas gaints.

4. What are dwarf planets?

A heavenly body which cannot be classified as a planet or a satellite but has some characteristics of a planet is called a dwarf planet.

5. Where are the asteroids present?

Most asteroids in the solar system are known  to be present between the orbits of planets Mars and Jupiter.

ANSWER THE FOLLOWING

1. Differentiate between inner planets and Outer planets of the solar system.

I. INNER PLANETS:

The first four planets clauses to the sun- Mercury, Venus,Earth and Mars -are called inner planets. They are made of hard rocks.

II. OUTER PLANETS :

The four planets Jupiter, Saturn,Uranus and Neptune that lie further away from the sun in the solar system are called outer planets. They are all made of gases and are much bigger in size than the inner planet  and hence, are also called gas gaints.

2. Describe the planet Jupiter.

Jupiter is the largest planet of the solar system and is entirely made of gases. Jupiter is also known for its "great red spot "or "eye" which is a huge storm known to have been observed always on the planet's surface. Jupiter has 179 moons.

3. What is meant by the phases of the Moon?

While orbiting the Earth, sometimes the full, bright side of the moon is visible from some parts of the Earth, while at the other times, only a small, bright  part of the moon is visible to us. As a  result the moon appears to change its shape every night. These different shapes of the moon are called phases of the Moon.

4. Differentiate between natural and artificial satellite.

1. NATURAL SATELLITE:

A natural heavenly body which orbits a planet is called a natural satellite.

2. ARTIFICIAL SATELLITE:

An artificial satellite is an object made by humans and sent into space to orbit the Earth for various reasons and functions.
